Well I looked at the Acme Art Co. website and just loved the way the masked are paint with the bigger than life characters and colours. So I sent Ron a few emails and PM's on here and get the process going. The mask is not finished and back in my hands yet, so I will leave the review part until them. But until them I will post the pictures as I get them so we can all enjoy the process. I'm a little behind on these post's so there will be 3 in a row......save all of you the wait

Part 4 - Final product, and review
I have not got the mask back from Ron yet as he still needs to do the finishing touches, and clear coat. Then the clear coat needs to cure before it's trip back across Canada to Calgary. once I get the mask back I will do a review of the Acme Art Co. experience, as well as the Olie 7000 mask as I have not done that yet either (you know 2 birds one stone). If I get pictures of the final product before it's shipped I will put them up. Last edited by Telgip33; 12-23-2009 at 01:34 PM. |

Yes Ron does take great pride in his work! One of the best things is his ability to take a few random thoughts that I gave them and turn them into what I wanted.....actually more than what I wanted if that's possible.

Its pretty amazing to see how a mask paint job goes togethor...
Ron, my buddy Mike told me about a tool that basically can remove the paint from a mask really quickly, I beleive it is an airtool sander used in the automotive industry to remove paint... you should look into that, I bet it beats the heck out of using a razor blade!!! Your talents are simply amazing with that paint!!! |

Thanks everyone, I think I've tried pretty much all the sanding techniques out there. With the razor I can shave in between the factory ( or custom ) paint and primer without harming the gel coat of most masks, after that it's just a little hand sanding to remove the primer. I know it's a slower method but very little mask material is removed, just paint. Keeps the dust to a minimum as well.

That's a prototype mask I made here at my place, it's more compact than my "A" model with a different chin geometry. It fits me well although I've never worn it in a game. Originally I was going to wear it with grey primer but then I went off and painted it with some serious metal flake gold. The design, a Pharaoh holding paint brushes is a refined version of a stock art design I do for a company called Fusion. I haven't worn it because it doesn't match my gear. It was a successful experiment with paint though. 3.jpg side close.jpg scarab custom.jpg stock.jpg Thanks.
